Belfast News Feature: Did You Know ?

Belfast News: selling a home you'll need an Energy Performance Certificate from the end of June 2008 - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley

Did you know that if you are selling your house after the 30th June 2008 that you are required to provide any prospective buyer with an Energy Performance Certificate. The certificates can only be produced by accredited energy assessors (Belfast Matters)

Our View: This measure bring us one step closer to the housing market in England & Wales where vendors are required to supply a HIP Home Information Pack to prospective purchasers. In real terms its meaningless, but as a money spinner, the revenue must be laughing!

Belfast News Feature: Americas Got Talent show top prize of £1,000,000 is payable of 40 years - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley

Did you know that the 'America's Got Talent' show airing on ITV2 has a top prize of $1,000,000 payable over 40 years!

Our View: The world has gone crazy! Reality TV that appears to give the average Joe their big break, appears now only to be lining the pockets of the program makers rather than the 'Talent' starring in their shows

(FOI)

Our View: Communities in the East of Belfast should apply and gain the benefit of such a scheme. One organistion who has done just that recently is RACKS, the Residents Association for Cherryvalley, Kensington and Shandon.

Belfast News: the planned death of your civil liberty - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley East Belfast Did you know that ministers are considering plans for a giant electronic database to hold every phone call and email made or sent in the United Kingdom. The Home Office indicated that the retention of communications are vital for National Security. (Reported May 08 Teletext)

Our View: This government never fails to reach even lower depths, if they want to get a policy through they claim it will help the young, the old, the vulnerable and if in doubt claim National Security. We live in dangerous times when a so called democracy can spy so openly on all citizens!

Belfast News: skewed planning at NI planning service - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley East Belfast Did you know that in the year 2006/2007 the Planning Service made 30,000 decisions on applications. The Environment Minister Arlene Foster recognised that targets were missed and that reform is needed. (Reported May 08 South Side Advertiser)

Our View: Our new politicians are missing the point that concerns us - how many applications were in fact rejected ! How many objections were ignored, how many people's environment ruined and that before we discuss the destruction of our heritage. The approval rate is 82.6% <view planning report>

Belfast News Feature: your every little makes their wealth - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley East Belfast Did you know that Dot Reid a 58 year old Grandmother from Liverpool has applied for planning permission to demolish the home of Tesco Chief, Sir Terry Leahy. She'd had enough of Tesco who were involved in plans to compulsory purchase and demolish her home (Reported 12 April 08 BBC)

Our View: Dot has our deepest sympathy, for as this supermarket grows ever larger it leaves more and more victims in its wake, from the closed shops in our high street, to suppliers & producers within its supply chain and even victims in the communities it claims it wishes to serve. Tesco response was to claim "This is just a publicity stunt".

Belfast News: Tony Blair - birds of a feather flock together - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley East Belfast Did you know that Head of Health England and Senior Advisor to former PM Tony Blair is proposing that people who wish to smoke should have to purchase an annual £10 permit, before then can do so. (Reported 16th Feb 08 Sun Newspaper)

Our View: What a crack pot - this man and his ideas are more damaging than any fag they attack our very freedoms. What's he been smoking !

Belfast News: should the Equality Commission be called the Inequality Commission - cherryvalleyvillage.co.uk here for Cherryvalley East Belfast Did you know that the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland still fails to represent the makeup of the Northern Ireland population. Figures released (FOI) in 2007 show:

Roman Catholic 33 Males 55 Females
Protestant 15 Males 34 Females

Our View: It appears hypocritical to preach a message you're not living, does it not?
