Belfast News:
Belfast City Airport Gets A 'BMI Baby'
It hasn't even been nine months since RyanAir announced they were to leave Belfast City Airport and already the airport is expecting a new baby, BMI Baby.
From January 2011 the East Belfast Airport, will see the airline offer flights to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and East Midlands, complimenting flights already offered by its parent company to London Heathrow.
Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport, Brian Ambrose said, 'We're delighted that
BMI Baby recognise the continuing investment in the airport's infrastructure, aimed at
improving the passenger experience, which we believe makes
Belfast City Airport world class'.
CEO of BMI, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, said 'It makes obvious business sense to have the BMI group airlines serving the same Belfast airport', continuing on to
state that BMI 'has a long and proud connection with Northern
Ireland, serving Belfast for over 26 years'.
Editorial
Since the final departure of RyanAir, the skies over Belfast have certainly been less noisy, despite FlyBe taking on routes to the
vacated destinations.
However, there is justifiable concern that in addition to the flights now taken on by FlyBe, Belfast residents will have to once again endure larger style aircraft landing and taking off, with up to 48 scheduled flights from Belfast City Airport each week.
We all know the benefit of having a City Airport and many appreciate the convenience, but Belfast has to be careful that some are not enjoying the convenience of an airport, at the expense and misery of others. Only time will tell, whether these new Belfast Flights are
truly a blessing, but this announcement
is indeed 'great news' for the airport
itself.
