Industry regulator Ian Osborne recommends NI Water makes cuts of £135m, savings of 11% through measures such as efficiencies. Last month NI Water said it would spend another £1.5bn upgrading water and sewage systems over the next eight years. It also said it was currently spending up to £150m on infrastructure every year.
14th January 2009 Chris Mellor chairman of Northern Ireland Water indicated during a Stormont committee briefing on Wednesday the 14th January 2009, that it could take years for Northern Ireland Water to improve its data quality.
22nd January 2009 Northern Ireland Water has been fined £5000 at Lisburn Magistrates Court for polluting the Glenavy River in October 2007.

1. Northern Ireland water enters its sixth month
without a permanent Chief Executive after the former CEO Katherine
Bryan resigned. However NI Water has now started to widely advertise this
vacancy at the very top of it organisational tree. It is not yet known whether Acting CEO Chris
Mellor will apply for the post.
2. The Northern Ireland Executive has announced (20th
Nov) that the proposed Water Charges will be deferred for another
year.
October 2008
Another fiasco at Northern Ireland Water as 5,800 customers are overcharged about £1 million, leading to repayments and the company facing a multi-million pound shortfall in its finances. The director of customer services for NI Water William Duddy, indicated that the problem is due, in part, to errors in billing for business customers and confirmed that thousands of businesses were wrongly charged. Mr. Duddy failed to indicate whether any Northern Ireland Water Directors would be falling on their sword, in this latest blunder.
