Scandal
of the Theft Charge Just
when Britain thought it had witnessed all the greed,
foolishness and stupidity it could stomach in the House
of Commons expense scandal, we stand amazed once more at
the foolishness of our politically correct world.
The story begins with a West London filmmaker, entering
a disused building to turn off an alarm after it was
triggered by squatters. Unfortunately, he briefly turned
on the lights to locate the alarm and was arrested and
charged with dishonestly using electricity.
The 'Arch Criminal' Mark Guard was brought before
Highbury Magistrates and elected to be tried by a jury,
but the CPS denied him a trial choosing to drop the case
for theft of electric amounting to 0.003p Editorial Britain
has gone mad, we are besieged by real crime, people's
lives destroyed by its effects, peoples homes violated
and worse, people attacked, suffering serious injury or
death and we appear to have a police force addicted to
wasting valuable time and effort. In
this case, the police used the Theft Act, presumably
because they were lost as to what else they could charge
him with, and there is the clue!! They appear determined
to charge him, for something and seem to lose focus on
what is reasonable, what is common sense and what is in
the public interest. In a
time of hardship, this case littered with wanton waste
is a national disgrace. There appears to have been no
safeguards in place, for no alarm bells rang with the
arresting officers, presumably no alarms bells rang with
the custody sergeant, apparently no alarm bells rang
with the reviewing lawyer, prosecuting lawyer or CPS
staff. Only once the CPS had allowed the case to be
committed to the Crown Court for trial, did they drop
it. Thankfully, most police and prosecuting staff
possess common sense, for we would be in real dire
straights if justice rested in the hands of the people
involved in this case. Last Updated: 29th August
