Belfast News: Another NI Gas Hike!

The Utility Regulator's Office has told the Assembly's Enterprise Committee increases in gas prices are inevitable, given the steep rises of gas on the global market.

The news that there is a huge price hike on the way next month came on Thursday, although details of the exact percentage rise are unknown.

It is time that the Northern Ireland Utility Regulator was reformed. It is not for a body, which is an independent government department, set up regulate the utilities such as electricity, gas and water, to announce price increases ahead of the companies commercial decisions.

It may only be perception, that the regulator rules in favour of the companies under regulation, rather the the consumer, but perception is reality. 

This price hike, is one hike too far!
