News: Wilsons Auctions Fined
Portadown Auctioneers, Wilsons Auctions has been fined £1,000 for selling a car which breached the Trade Descriptions Act.
The auction company sold the Mercedes C220 advertising it mileage as 73,453 miles. However it was discovered following its sale for £5,100, that the true mileage was at least 133,479 miles.
Craigavon Magistrates Court heard that Wilsons knew the mileage in its brochure was incorrect. Trading Standards, who brought the prosecution indicated, that there was no suggestion Wilsons had 'clocked' the car. but rather represented that the misleading
figure highlighted 'a significant degree of neglect', with Wilsons failing to take appropriate action to ensure that the mileage was
not misrepresented to prospective buyers.
Wilsons Auctions entered guilty pleas to two charges under the Trade Descriptions Act.
