Simply
Belfast Manifesto.....Savings With
the entire country having to tighten its
belt, this administration appears to be
pennywise and pound foolish. We would seek
to introduce measures to prohibit unnecessary
public expenditure, for example, we would
put pace to: 1.
The one hundred and thirty thousand pounds wasted to
date in an anti-litter campaign by Belfast City Council
and additional monies wasted by other
public authorities. The removal of litter wardens,
redeploying staff and using financial savings to
enable the police the ability to prevent
and detect crime. 2.
Government Departments would be prohibited
from spending monies on unnecessary
self-advertising such as 'Google Adwords'
when the same objectives can be obtained
through professional Search Engine Optimization.
Unnecessary Government and Local
Government websites would be closed down. 3.
Public Servants & Ministers would be
held to account for unnecessary financial
waste, and required to explain policy
decisions which in tough financial times
appear foolish to the general public. A
prime example would be the millions of
pounds being wasted to place humps on the
road and polls at some street corners,
when they have failed in their public duty
of care to safeguard drivers and
pedestrians by repairing roads, mitigating
dangers and removing potholes. 4.
The full review of government departments
and agencies, amalgamating departments and
re-aligning business functions. The
closure of Enterprise Northern Ireland and
the Local Enterprise Agencies and other
companies set up conducting public
business, where there is either little or
no public accountability. The contracts
which they operate on behalf of government
agencies such as Invest NI, should be
brought back in house, as it is a core
function of their business and should not
have been outsourced.
5.
Government departments, including local
government would be prohibited from
waste of public money. A recent example
of this, is Belfast City Council
spending approximately £200,000 to date
in a campaign to inform you that your
family is wasting £680 a year in food
waste. Other prime examples include the
costly campaign advising you that the
power to save is at your fingertips,
which essentially offers you little more
than common sense advice, such as
closing your curtains, switching off
lights and adjusting thermostats. In
the 2011 Northern Ireland Assembly
Elections the power to save is at your
fingertips, by voting out the wasters!
